Meet The Pastor
The Rev. Dr. Charles R. Tyner, Sr. was born in Northampton County, Murfreesboro, NC. His membership affiliation is with the Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, NC. Rev. Tyner was licensed to preach in October 1968 and ordained in November 1969. He pastored at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Winton, NC for nine years prior to becoming Pastor of White Oak Missionary Baptist Church.
Reverend Tyner is married to the former Miss Betty Ricks of Severn, NC. They are the parents of two sons - Charles Jr. and Christopher; a daughter-in-law (Candace) and three grandchildren.
Reverend Tyner received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion and Philosophy, and History in 1972 from Shaw University, Raleigh; his Master of Science Degree in Administration (in the field of Education) in 1979 from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC.
Pastor Tyner's vision led him to embark upon a new endeavor. He is the founder of White Oak Foundation, Inc. - a non-profit organization, founded in 1998. This organization is commited to its motto - "Caring for the total person."
Pastor Tyner's commitment and dedication to helping others led him to travel to Mississippi to see what he could do to help those devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Through his efforts and leadership, the White Oak Foundation and the White Oak Baptist Church family have helped many to make the transition towards recovery as smooth as possible.
Reverend Tyner refers to Matthew 25:34-40 to explain the "why" of his actions "Then they shall say unto Him, Lord, when saw we thee hungered, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and visited you? And shall the King say, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Meet The First Lady
"Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always."
First Lady Betty Ricks Tyner is a true example of the woman described in Proverbs 31. She is a loving and devoted wife of over 50 years, a dedicated mother, grandmother and mentor. She is the virtuous wife of Rev. Charles R. Tyner, Sr., Pastor of White Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Apex, North Carolina. Her role as First Lady is like none other. She has walked alongside her husband providing love and support to his ministry and this year we celebrate the 51st Pastoral Anniversary.
God has also blessed them to be the parents of 2 adult sons: Charles Jr. and Christopher: one daughter-in- law, Candace (Charles Jr.); and the proud grandparents of three grandchildren: Caya Latrice, Charlice Janine and Charles III.
Affectionately known by her White Oak church family as “Ms. T”, she is active in the Deaconess Ministry as well as many other White Oak outreach ministries. She is a down to earth, fun-loving, poised woman of God. On any given day she can be found working faithfully with the Food Pantry ministry at White Oak Foundation, Inc.
